Casey Lea Like - Shoes

I would have to say that the best thing my University ever did for me was pair me up with a fellow fashion obsessed girl freshmen year. Hey name is Casey Lea.  We bonded over our love of clothes, piercings and all things Gilmore Girls. She became one of my best friends and was my roommate for all four years.

She opened me up to the color brown and bands such as Death Cab, Fall Out Boy and Mae... I opened her up to the color black and Third Eye Blind!

Together we became somewhat inseparable and people asked us over and over again if we were actually related.

Traveling around Italy.

We had classes together, lived together and even worked together a while. I have no idea how we didn't kill each other at times.

She was known for waking me up in the middle of the night to make grilled cheese because she "just can't sleep on an empty stomach."

We studied abroad in Rome and even made an unforgettable trip to India together. All of which we survived.

We were big fans of mirror photos Freshmen Year.

Ice cream trips were the best kind.

Finally taking a break senior year after our crits were done.
Graduation day.

All night sewing sessions and walks around downtown Philly for no reason. Gilmore Girl marathons and bubble tea.  I miss her now that NYC has stolen her away.

***Sorry for the overload of Casey photos but I just had to do a picture recap of our time together and introduce my blog to this crazy awesome girl. You guys are actually lucky that I edited out a bunch of photos.  We probably have thousands of photos over our years and trips together. What can I say? I am photo happy sometimes!!***

Anyway, I trust her fashion advice and wish we lived closer so I could still be borrowing things out of her closet. Two closets worth of clothes is always better than one!

So when she texts me that she has found the perfect shoe for my blog I knew I had to trust her opinion.

So here is the first of hopefully many Casey Lea Likes... I present her shoe pick.

How adorable are these?!

A huge trend in shoes for spring and summer is the flat platform wedge or "Flatform." I am seeing them all over magazines and stores. They seem so practical and comfortable yet keeping that cute stylish look.

What? Gee WaWa Women's Daphne Two-Piece Flatform

How Much? $115-128

Where? She got her pair at Free People, but they are also available at Endless

She says they are extremely comfortable which will be perfect for her to walk all around NYC in the summer.

These are perfect transition shoes. She could honestly wear them in all seasons and since they are closed toe they would be perfect for most workplaces.

I love the color choices. If i were to buy a pair I would be torn between the black and tan or the yellow and purple.

She may have just convinced me to buy a pair. Oh that tricky Casey Lea... her picks are just too fun to pass up!!

The Girl on Fire

Today was the day! Brian promised to take me to see The Hunger Games and like the awesome boyfriend that he is he kept his promise! We went for an early showing to beat the crowds. Best idea  ever because by the time we left the theatre it was packed!

I won't say much because I don't want to give away any spoilers and I am honestly not a big fan of reading other movie reviews. I will spare you mine, however, I have to say that I was definitely not disappointed. I left the theatre excited for the next installment and was pleasantly suprised that the movie was depicted almost exactly how I had pictured it in my head (that never happens.) And the costumes were perfection!

This will be the last of my Hunger Games posts. While I was searching all things Hunger Games I stumble upon these amazing fashion sketches. I find is really inspiring to see how each designer interpreted the idea of Katniss Everdeen, The Girl on Fire!!

My favorite would have to be Rachel Roy's sketch (bottom right). The high-low hem with that ruffle train is just stunning. While Roy's is my favorite, Nicole Millers' sketch (third on top row) is how I imagined it as I was reading the book. I find that a common trend is all the sketches is that the designer kept Katniss looking strong and fierce while still keeping it feminine.

Which one would be your favorite?

To Dress like Katniss

Time to update my look... Hunger Games style.

As I was reading the Hunger Games books I found myself wanted to dress more and more like the character of Katniss. I found myself inspired by her style in the arena and leaving me wanting her leather hunting boots and her father's hunting jacket which was worn to perfection.

I actually did go out seeking a pair boots similar to what I expected Katniss would wear. I couldn't get them off my mind... my inner hunger games victor needed these boots to survive. And I can't deny a need for shoes.

Katniss served as my inspiration and I was pulling clothes out of my closet that I would normally look right past. I was putting together pieces that were not my typical style, yet I felt comfortable in them all day.

This outfit in particular had people commenting to me about how it looked like I was an "outdoors girl" or that I was "going camping." I wasn't exactly getting "you look like Katniss," but close enough.

Now I know Katniss wouldn't be wearing heels in the arena. But seriously I can't take her style literally guys... where would I put the bow and arrow all day if I did?!

In all seriousness I would love to purchase a mockingjay pin (I'm a nerd). I think it would be a fun accessory to any jacket and subtle nod to the books/movie.

I really wish I was better at braiding my own hair. I would love to perfect the art of doing a side braid. This one here was fun for a while, but kept falling out and became more bobby pins than braid by the end of the day. If I could master the braid it would help spice things up and I would have a whopping four different things that I could do with my hair.

My Hunger Games

While all of the other kids were off drinking this weekend, I was spending my day online shopping and creating Hunger Games trend boards. I am a nerd.

Makes me really really miss making trend boards back in school. It might have been my favorite part of the design process.

I love to clip photos an arrange them in a way that shows exactly what inspires me.

Here is just a little more proof that at times I wish I was Katniss... well except for the whole her having to fight to save her life thing. That part wouldn't be fun. But the clothes... that would be fun.

My Hunger Games

  • First of all if I had the extra money just sitting around I would spend it on this amazing Vivienne Westwood coat. If i put it on I can guarentee that I would never take it off.
  • My boots! Comfortable... I highly suggest them to anyone.
  • How cute are those bracelets?! If you have read the books then you know how sweet it would be to give those bracelets to someone.
  • The pin and earrings would be fun to doll up a dull outfit.
  • I need to hunt down that nail polish set. Every color is perfectly selected.
  • That braid!!! I need to learn to braid like that!!!

Let the Games Begin

Let the Games Begin

Pin brooch

Hunger Games
$7.19 - target.com

May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor.

I have to admit it... I am insanely excited about The Hunger Games coming out Friday.

A few months ago a Target trip resulted in a few pairs of socks, lip gloss and The Hunger Games.  While I have loved the socks and the lip gloss has kept my lips smooth, the best purchase that day would have to be the book!

I couldn't put the it down, finding myself spending every free minute breezing thru the trilogy.  I haven't enjoyed reading a book so much in such a long time and truly felt sad when I finished the last page. I long for more Katniss and Peeta in my life!

Which is why a big thank you is directed to Hollywood for creating this film which will hopefully live up to my expectations. The trailer alone brings tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my arms.

While I am super excited to see how they interpret the story, I am mostly obsessed with how they portray the costumes. Ahh... the girl on fire costume!!! My inner designer is freaking out at just the thought.

Even the promo pics have me obsessed.

(Plus it doesn't hurt that they picked a pretty cute Peeta...eye candy never hurts right?!)

Is anyone else as excited as I am about this movie?
